World Trade Center, New York City

The World Trade Center in New York City was the site of the worst terrorist attack on the United States on September 11, 2001. Along with attacks on the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and a thwarted highjacking that ended in a plane crash in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, nearly 3,000 people were killed. New office towers and a memorial and museum are under construction at the site known as Ground Zero.
